LASIK

LASIK has become one of the most common elective surgical procedures in the United States. Dr. Gipson has performed refractive surgery and LASIK for over ten years. The out-patient eye care procedure takes only a matter of minutes for each eye and is performed under topical anesthetic drops.

During LASIK surgery, a corneal flap is created using either a microkeratome or laser to reshape the cornea. After the laser treatment, the flap is laid back into position and kept in place by natural suction without requiring sutures. Eye drops are used and plastic shields are placed over the eyes to protect them until the following day. The results are almost immediate, with minimum discomfort during the first 24-hour period.

You will be required to return to the office the day after LASIK surgery and as needed to make sure your eyes are healing properly. After the healing period, your vision should be vastly improved, so you can begin to enjoy life without having to rely on eyeglasses or contacts.
